Okay, those of you who actually understand computersI have windows 7 64 bit and every time I try to access windows explorer or the drives on my computer I get this error message:
The remote procedure call failed and did not execute.
Sometimes it works if I wait a while, or if I restart and it opens all documents saved to my desktop. I tried restarting the remote procedure call using services.msc as was advised, but the restart option is unavailable.
Any tips? This is getting rather annoying.
which type of computer do you have. I used to have this same issue with my windows 7 computers and they were hp computers with i3 processors running jaws, one thing you might want to try doing when you get windows explorer working and it doesn't crash is press Alt+P to hide the preview pain, then seeing if you can navigate better or it doesn't crash
Yes. For some odd reason HP had this issue.
Here is what I'd do. I'd put the issue in to the search box on Microsoft.com and see if their is a fix it for the issue. If you like I'll do it for you and post it.
I had this problem on my win 7 machine, and to be honest I'm not exactly sure what fixed it. I did a lot of google searching but nothing seemed to work and I didn't want to edit the registry or do anything that would further screw up my computer. I'd recommend doing virus scans, doing a disk clean up, etc. make sure there aren't any unwanted programs or tool bars that were installed without you knowing. Also, I believe disabling the preview pain will help. It does weird things with jaws. You can do that from the folder options within the control panel. A complete clean of the computer and removing random tool bars and things seems to have made the issue disappear.
YOU CAN'T RUN DISK CLEANUP UNLESS YOU can get to explorer, right?
can you get to th the drives from the my computer option?
Eh wayne, I would greatly appreciate that. So far alt p isn't working, oh and it is an HP I'm not certain about the processer but I could look.
With Windows 7 you can get to anything using the search box. You don't have to get to windows explorer.
It's kind of odd, and I saw this issue on a post, so I'll look it up and post it.
Why HP, I haven't the idea.
On other machines Microsoft released an update that fixed the proglem, so that might be why the other posters issue disappeared.
the preview paine is definitely what was causing my issue! if you can get to say like "documents, tab 3 times, and it will take you to something called "command module" or something, right arrow to the preview pane, and if it's checked, uncheck it.
Here is the solution I was talking about.
Maybe what the other posters has said about the preview pain is correct. Maybe one of them will post exactly how to fix it?
You can search on Microsoft’s site on changing it as well.
Here is the solution I was speaking about.
Microsoft has a fix it tool center it is at
http://support.microsoft.com/find-solutions/windows/windows-8/
Now that page says Windows 8, because Windows 8 is the latest version, however, you’ll find tools for other versions. Here is how I located the tool I think might fix your issue.
I went to that page. Next Arrow down and select fined it myself.
I select the product I need help with, in this case it is Windows.
I arrow down and select Windows 7.
Under the select a topic I select use desktop features or open programs and files.
Under the sub topic I find Windows explorer.
Now depending on your issue select the tool that best fits your issue and download it. You’ll be guided, and the process is easy.
I personally have had great successes using Microsoft’s fix it tools, and when I am working with a Microsoft technician on an issue they use them as well.
Note the page can be controlled by using headings, so you can skip to the sections you want if the page moves back up to the thing you’ve already selected. Just follow the information.
This was an issue with many computers, and I can’t say if this will fix your problem, but it won’t harm it.
Good luck
Also, I'd like to add that you should make sure you have all Windows updates and service patches or packs installed.
I remember when I first installed Windows 7 the explorer issue was one I had, and soon as the new service pack was released it cleared that up along with some other things as well.
It seems, that even when computers are new companies or computer suppliers are using older versions of Windows, so they are not updated completely.
This solution is a shot in the dark, because I don't know if you have that issue. I installed my Windows myself from a new copy when it was first released, and the explorer issue happened sometimes and sometimes not, so go figure. Lol
Twas a success so far Wayne. :d thanks so much guys
